Khat Vong Song - Tune In
“Fake Kidnapping Goes Awry”
“Villagers Save Mother and Daughter from Suicide Attempt”
“Girlfriend Matches Rare Blood Type Boyfriend Needs to Save Life”
These could be headlines about some of the stories now being created for Khat Vong Song (“The Desire of Life”), PMC’s new radio serial drama in Vietnam. The stories will evolve over two years and will address HIV/AIDS prevention, stigma, and discrimination; gender equality; family planning; and communication between parents and children. Khat Vong Song will be broadcast on the Voice of Vietnam, both over the radio and streaming online.
“Fake Kidnapping Goes Awry”
Listeners from all over Vietnam will be following Tung, a boy from a wealthy family, who feels unloved by his parents and is lured into a life of crime by Kim Thuy, an attractive, young, and promiscuous woman involved in gambling and drug trafficking. Having lost all his money gambling with Kim Thuy, Tung agrees to set up his own fake kidnapping as a way to pay off his debts. Despite Tung’s attempts to pull off this scam, things go terribly awry.
“Villagers Save Mother and Daughter from Suicide Attempt”
Listeners to Khat Vong Song will also follow the trials and tribulations of Suu and her eldest daughter Mo. Suu is verbally and physically abused by her husband Tuat, the head of a clan in his village. Having three daughters already, Tuat desperately wants a son. He throws Suu and Mo out into the streets and takes an “illegal wife.” But Tuat does not stop there. He tries to force Mo (his daughter) into prostitution. Destitute and with no way out of their misery, Suu and Mo set fire to their living quarters in a double suicide attempt.
“Girlfriend Matches Rare Blood Type Boyfriend Needs to Save Life”
Vietnamese will be clinging to their radio as they listen to Asua plead with her boyfriend Ha Chinh to use her blood, a rare type and perfect match, for a blood transfusion that he needs to save his life after he gets into a terrible accident and is hospitalized. Nam, a widow and acquaintance of Ha Chinh’s persuades him to wait to find another match because she believes Asua is HIV positive. How can Asua convince Ha Chinh she is HIV negative? Will Ha Chinh wait too long?
