“RSS” or “Really Simple Syndication”, has become a standard for publishing updates to Web content. In the past, users had to visit a Web site to to find updated content. Now with RSS (also called XML feeds), users can subscribe to a feed, and are alerted when the Web site content is updated.

There are at least two different ways you can read RSS feeds: Desktop programs and Web-based services. The two most popular desktop programs are FeedDemon (Windows) and NetNewsWire (Mac OS). The most common Web-based services are NewsGator, Bloglines and My Yahoo. When you are ready to subscribe, click on the RSS News Feed link. Most programs will ask you to copy and paste the URL to subscribe.
