UK Government Pledges Population Cap

Many thanks to Rosamund McDougall of OPT (Optimum Population Trust) for the news of the UK government’s pledge to cap its population and for the attached article. As announced by OPT on October 18, the organization welcomed the reversal of government pro-population growth policies. “This government isn’t going to allow the population to go up to 70 million… There has to be a balance between the number of people coming in and the number of people leaving,” new Immigration Minister Phil Woolas announced that day in an interview with The Times. Mr. Woolas was formerly Climate Change Minister.

OPT has called for balanced [zero net] migration since 2003 and continues to campaign for UK population to be allowed to decrease to a long-term environmentally sustainable level.
