Population News Digest, Week Ending 8/14/2012

Weekly Review: Featured is a review of the “population play” that has been running in London, put on by Stephen Emmott of Microsoft, titled 10 Billion. The review gives a litany of the ecological and sustainability problems Emmott points to in his solo production. The Los Angeles Times editorial team wrote a good opinion statement in the first story of the multi-national and/or global section. A significant number of Pollyanna stories again this week. In the USA, the number of cities with populations over 100,000 increased from 275 to 285 since 2010. In Japan, the national population fell by over 260,000 people in the last year – a decrease of just over 00.2% for the island nation which has a total of over 126 million people.
