Tassie needs more mums in push for population growth
TASMANIA needs to attract more women of child-bearing age if the Government’s bold population target of 650,000 by 2050 is to be achieved, a leading demographer says.
Data released by the State Government last week showed the Government’s ambitions for population growth could be fanciful unless it takes decisive action.
Forecasts showed that in a worst-case scenario, Tasmania could even have fewer residents in 2062 than the present population of about 515,000.
