RELIGIOUS leaders from the two major faiths in Oyo State – Christianity and Islam – have pledged to promote family planning among their faithful, going by the health, social and economic benefits of the initiative.

The religious leaders stated this at the end of a one-day inter-faith meeting, organised by the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) in Ibadan recently.

NURHI, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, supports the family planning initiative in five states of the federation.

In her opening remarks during the inter-faith meeting, the Oyo State Team Leader of NURHI, Mrs Stella Akinso, said “the essence of bringing the religious leaders together is because the majority of Nigerians obey their pastors and Imams.
