WHILE Tanzania’s population is currently growing at an annual rate of 2.7 per cent, only 27 per cent of women in their reproductive age use modern family planning methods and about 25 percent of them use traditional methods to control their fertility.
Modern contraceptives use is higher in urban areas where 16 per cent aged between 15-24 years old. Urban population growth rate according to United Nation (UN), data is 4.8 per cent and the total fertility rate stands at 5.4 children per women.
With the current population growth rate, the population of Tanzania is 45 million where 63 per cent of Tanzanian population aged under 25, 54 per cent aged under 20 and 45 per cent of Tanzanian population is aged under 15 this is according to 2012 Tanzania population and housing census.
