PMC's Visionary Society: People with a future-focused interest in a sustainable world.
You’ve probably heard of Legacy Societies, a typical name for the group of people who make planned gifts such as bequests. PMC calls this group the Visionary Society: people with a future-focused interest in a sustainable world. It is a mindset that values the good of the community above self-interest. It acknowledges the responsibility of each of us to promote individual and societal well-being. That sums up the kind of supporter PMC already has. That’s you.
Population Media Center (PMC) works worldwide using entertainment-education for social change. PMC’s programs improve human health, enhance human rights, and protect the environment. PMC supporters help ensure this work continues with planned gifts to the PMC Visionary Society. Your estate plan – such as a bequest, a gift of life insurance, an allocation from your retirement plan, or a charitable trust – is your legacy to future generations. It’s a way to provide for people and causes that are important to you.
How do Estate Plans Work?
When you notify us that PMC is part of your estate plan, you will be included as a member of the Visionary Society. You may leave PMC an unrestricted or restricted gift; unrestricted gifts are the most useful since they can be used where the need is greatest. We encourage you to consult with a legal or financial professional to determine the best vehicle for your estate plans. (We are happy to discuss your intentions and provide guidance, but we cannot provide legal advice.) Estate plans can take different forms. Here are a few options:
- Bequests: Many people choose to list PMC in their will or trust document. See your estate planning attorney for guidance. To ensure that your current annual support continues, you may wish to endow your gift with an amount that would yield ongoing benefits equal to your current annual support.
- Retirement Plans and Life Insurance: You can save both estate tax and income tax by naming PMC as the beneficiary of your retirement plan. Simply contact your plan administrator to complete a beneficiary designation form. You can also name PMC as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
- Charitable Trusts: Life income gifts can be established that provide income to you or someone you designate during their lifetime. The remainder is transferred to PMC on the death of the designee. Charitable Remainder Trusts are usually funded with appreciated stocks, bonds or cash and result in a tax deduction for the donor.
If you would like an informational brochure, or if you are ready to join the PMC Visionary Society with a planned gift, please contact PMC’s Development Department to ask about planned giving at firstname.lastname@example.org or (802) 985-8156.
