Good ideas stem from passion. At Population Media Center, we know that local inspiration creates a meaningful program.

As a child, Christina Guérin (center of the photo) watched her mother work for countless hours in a Haiti radio studio, producing soap operas for broadcast. She vowed not to follow in her mother’s footsteps, but that was before Christina had an idea for social change — and before she met with Population Media Center. In her late 20s, a chance event brought Christina face-to-face with child slavery in Haiti. She realized she wanted her country to address this issue. In September of 2013, Population Media Center’s soap opera Zoukoutap (“to limp”) debuted in Haiti, bringing Christina’s vision to fruition with her at the helm as producer.
