Population Media Center knows that every child deserves an education, including girls.

Fifty-seven million children around the world do not go to school and the majority of these children are girls. Population Media Center works to promote universal education and change attitudes toward girls’ education, such as helping parents find value in sending their daughters to school. A 2010 report demonstrated that child mortality decreases by 9.5 percent for every one-year increase in the average education of reproductive-age women. Investing in girls’ education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty and fertility, while improving health. Education empowers women to make informed choices.
