People Are The Catalysts for Change
We Just Need to Inspire their Conversations
EVERY PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Storytelling has been at the heart of cultural evolution since the dawn of history. It was the purpose of cave paintings. It is the essence of mythology. It remains the narrative of our lives.
Population Media Center integrates popular entertainment and modern behavior-theories to open minds to new possibilities, better choices and healthy outcomes. We help those in some of the world’s least developed countries to imagine new possibilities, practice healthy behaviors, and pursue higher goals than they previously thought possible.
Important global issues like population growth, species extinction and child marriage are complex and deeply entrenched problems. Traditional methods of communication such as posters, pamphlets or passing laws don’t always change behaviors. But everyone loves a good story. People share the stories we produce, and public discussion happens organically around the central issues. We don’t suggest the answers – we inspire the conversation. Local consensus arises out of a conversation that might not have happened any other way.
Changes can only come from local people making decisions about what they think is best. This is the most sustainable type of change there is. Read Population Media Center’s whitepaper to begin learning about how entertainment education can help diffuse some of the world’s most critical challenges — including population growth, patriarchy, and women’s dis-empowerment.

FLIRTING WITH THE SIXTH GREAT EXTINCTION?
Species are going extinct at a rate so alarming that scientists called it a “biological annihilation” in the peer-reviewed journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The authors predict “Humanity will eventually pay a very high price for the decimation of the only assemblage of life that we know of in the universe.”
AMERICANS AGREE: POPULATION GROWING TOO FAST
Population currently rises at the astounding rate of 200,000 per day. Americans are concerned the unprecedented rate is depleting resources, endangering wildlife and accelerating climate change. How can we avoid escalating the spiral of influences that threaten humanity’s very existence?
IS SHE WORTH MORE THAN A COUPLE OF GOATS?
Why would any parent trade a child for a benefit as small as a pair of goats? It’s unimaginable to us, but some cultural norms are so range-bound, the trade may actually seem like a good deal. Here’s how we can change that perception.
