Hailegnaw Eshete, PhD, MPH

Country Director, Ethiopia

Dr. Hailegnaw provides vision, overall technical and programmatic leadership, and managerial oversight for PMC-Ethiopia. He’s responsible for the overall development and representation of PMC’s activities in Ethiopia and for building a long-term platform for PMC-Ethiopia. He leads ongoing projects, particularly with UNFPA, UNICEF, Save the Children International (SC NORAD and SC Irish) projects.

Dr. Hailegnaw has significant experience as a public health consultant for international NGOs and donor organizations. Previously, Dr. Hailegnaw was executive director of the Ethiopian Public Health Association and project director of the Ethiopian Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (EPHIA) for Columbia University’s ICAP program.

OUT OF THE OFFICE

Hailegnaw writes articles for national and international journals and is an editorial board member of the Ethiopian Journal of Health Development. He wrote a book about HIV-AIDS and another about water-borne diseases and how to prevent them.
