World Population Day 2021
THE YEAR IN REVIEW
From a population perspective, the year between World Population Days in 2020 and 2021 was extremely intriguing — probably the most interesting since human civilization hit 7 billion people in 2011. Of course, as has been the case for all our lifetimes, the global population set a new record high every single day for a total increase of more than 80 million for the year. In about 18 months, the human population will exceed 8 billion, quadrupling in less than 100 years after hitting 2 billion in 1927.
On World Population Day 2021, we’re shining a spotlight on what we see as an ongoing ethical responsibility to future generations: Work every day to create better living conditions for the people and wild creatures of the future.
