Humanity is entirely dependent on a healthy ecosystem
Our lives are inextricably bound to the life all around us.
Life as we know it is in danger. This is not a drill.
Earth’s ecosystems are resilient but is suffering from dramatic, human-driven destruction. Five previous mass extinctions have wiped out up to 80 percent of life on earth very quickly. This much is known. What we don’t know – yet – is exactly how close humans have pushed the planet’s current environment towards irreversible collapse.
Species are being driven extinct at 1,000 to 10,000 times the natural rate. It’s happening so fast, it’s now described as a “biological annihilation.” If your physician spoke of your “biological annihilation,” wouldn’t you pay attention?
Population Media Center uses thought provoking entertainment to educate and motivate audiences regarding the importance of healthy ecosystems. Our stories role model behaviors that improve habitat conservation, forest management, water conservation, farming practices, and climate change adaptation. We also tackle the drivers of rapid human population growth, which is a fundamental driver of global environmental degradation. Read Population Media Center’s complimentary white paper to learn more about the socio-cultural drivers of world population growth.
