Title: Program Manager
Reports to: Vice President for International Programs
Location: PMC Headquarters, South Burlington, VT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Population Media Center (PMC) is a nonprofit, international nongovernmental organization utilizing entertainment mass media to empower people to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors. PMC’s work is concentrated on entertainment broadcasting, particularly long-running serial dramas in which characters evolve into role models for audiences.

The Program Manager will work with the Vice President for International Programs and other PMC staff members to develop, coordinate, and administrate programs in several countries. This position involves travel to a variety of developing countries.

This management role is critical to the successful and quality implementation of PMC’s country programs, as well as assuring their related financial sustainability.  The successful candidate should be equally comfortable operating at strategic and task levels, and s/he must apply communications skills to form productive relationships with culturally diverse international and HQ based staff across a wide range of functional areas.

Program Management.  Assist the Vice President for International Programs and Senior Program Associate with program management across two to four PMC country offices, both from headquarters and abroad. Responsibilities include supervision and technical and administrative control and guidance to Resident Representatives and in-country staff,  quality control, project implementation oversight, stakeholder management, country office capacity building, substantive public health advising,  and marketing. The number of countries assigned to the Program Manager will be dependent on experience.

Strategic Planning.  Participate in strategic plan implementation for the organization and for country programs with the Program and Research Unit at PMC HQ.

Program and Partnership Development.  Collaborate with PMC’s Program and Partnership Development (PPD) team and Resident Representatives in countries to identify appropriate partners (both technical and financial) to strengthen and expand PMC’s work, and assist with engagement and negotiation with partners.

Research.  Assist PMC’s Research Unit in coordinating research activities in-country. Facilitate communication between the Research Unit and in-country PMC staff. Assist the Research Unit with scoring research bids, research design, and data analysis, as needed.

Program Marketing.  Collaborate with senior management (in particular, the Director of Marketing and Communications) to develop written and visual content to build upon program promotional efforts, publicize impact results, and help PMC achieve its ten-year strategic plan. Responsibilities include assisting local teams with efforts to promote and advertise programs, acquiring listener testimonials, photos, and video evidence of the work being done and its impact. You will be asked to help with a variety of activities, including public relations, events, presentations, social media, brochures, and fact sheets.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide oversight and overall project management for 2-4 countries, including adherence to implementation plans, budget and reporting to PMC HQ and donors – to ensure efficient, timely and high-quality implementation of programs.
  • Act as liaison between in-country staff and US Headquarters staff. Liaise and coordinate project activities with other PMC staff, as needed.
  • Track project budgets with VP for Finance, and communicate issues for follow-up to the country staff for facilitating resolution as necessary.
  • Ensure that the Resident Representative of the countries managed is maintaining the program broadcast schedule and following the project and implementation schedule.
  • Maintain project files.
  • Write and prepare reports for donors, and PMC Board of Directors.
  • Establish and document project administrative and management activities and processes.
  • Prepare program-related content that will be used for PMC’s website, annual reports, and other communication and marketing materials.
  • Represent PMC at conferences and other meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in population studies, public health, communications, social sciences, or other related field.
  • Professional proficiency in French.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people of different cultures via email, phone, in writing, and in person.
  • Strong attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to complete multiple detail-oriented tasks with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Commitment to global population stabilization and related social and health goals.
  • Understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

 

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional proficiency in Spanish desirable.
  • Resident professional experience in a developing country.
  • Experience in writing or building marketing materials (for print or digital) desirable.
  • Graphic design and web-specific skills desirable.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud desired (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Familiarity with Social Media engagement (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)

Title: Finance Associate
Reports to: Vice President for Finance
Location: PMC Headquarters, South Burlington, VT

BACKGROUND

PMC’s work is concentrated on entertainment broadcasting, particularly long-running serial dramas in which characters evolve into role models for audiences. Grounded in its research evidence and theory-based approach, PMC has implemented successful and innovative programs in over 50 developing countries.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Accounting & Reporting

  • Receive and process monthly financial reports from foreign offices
  • Reconcile all cash journals and bank statements
  • Post foreign operations financial transactions to general ledger
  • Maintain Cost & Funding Analysis for PMC programs
  • Prepare third party reports as required

General Accounting

  • Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts (cash and investments, pre-paid expenses, fixed assets, payable & accruals

Cash Receipts

  • Process periodic deposit of checks received at PMC HQ
  • Record deposits in general ledger and reconcile with donor database
  • Monitor collection of expected grant and contract proceeds

Cash Disbursements

  • Process and post accounts payable vouchers
  • Process accounts payable checks
  • Reconcile & post monthly credit card statements
  • Process wire transfers as directed by VP of Finance

Budget

  • Prepare periodic analysis of budget to actual and recommend corrective management action where necessary

Audit

  • Prepare selected documentation for annual financial audit and periodic 3rd party (donor) audits and reviews

Payroll / Human Resources

  • Serve as occasional backup to Office Manager for processing monthly payroll

Banking

  • Prepare selected account reconciliations

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 1-3 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in general ledger applications
  • High proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Relevant experience/proficiency in database applications
  • Relevant experience/proficiency in human resources/payroll applications
