Population Media Center (PMC) is a nonprofit, international nongovernmental organization utilizing entertainment mass media to empower people to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors. PMC’s work is concentrated on entertainment broadcasting, particularly long-running serial dramas in which characters evolve into role models for audiences.

The Program Manager will work with the Vice President for International Programs and other PMC staff members to develop, coordinate, and administrate programs in countries worldwide and domestically. With the Burundi-based project director, the Program Manager will also coordinate activities for on Share-Net Burundi: the local country node in Burundi as part of Share-Net International, the Knowledge Platform on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and HIV. This position may involve travel to a variety of developing countries.

Program Management (50% time). Assist the Vice President for International Programs and Senior Program Associate with program management across PMC country offices, both from headquarters and abroad. Focus regions include Latin America and the East African Great Lakes Region. Responsibilities include stakeholder management, country office capacity building, substantive public health advising, program development, research design, data analysis, and marketing.

Share-Net Burundi (50% time). Work closely with the PMC-Burundi team (and with the Vice President for International Programs and the Director of Marketing and Communications) to develop and maintain a lively website that is a go-to resource of sexual and reproductive health and rights information and discussions for Burundi professionals working in this realm. Responsibilities include staying up-to-date with the latest in sexual and reproductive health and rights, continuing to refine the design and use of the website, continually updating the website with new resources (many coming from the community that the website has built), building a monthly newsletter, updating and informing funders about goals, progress, and next steps. This requires fluency in French.

Program Marketing. Collaborate with senior management (in particular, the Director of Marketing and Communications) to develop new written and visual content to build upon program promotional efforts and help PMC achieve its ten-year strategic plan. Responsibilities include assisting local teams with efforts to promote and advertise programs, acquiring listener testimonials, photo, and video evidence of the work being done and its impact. You will be asked to help with a variety of activities, including public relations, events, presentations, social media, brochures, and fact sheets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the program broadcast and implementation schedule of the countries managed.
  • Act as liaison between program staff and PMC communication staff.
  • Track project budgets with VP for Finance, and communicate issues for follow-up to the VP for International Program for facilitating resolution as necessary.
  • Write and prepare reports to donors.
  • Support Director of Program Development with preparation of proposals and budgets, as needed.
  • Establish and document project administrative and management activities and processes.
  • Oversee the Share-Net Burundi sexual and reproductive health and rights website working with the PMC-Burundi team.
  • Liaise and coordinate project activities with other PMC staff, as needed.
  • Prepare program-related content that will be used for PMC’s website, annual reports, and other communication and marketing materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in population studies, public health, communications, social sciences, or other related field.
  • Professional proficiency in French.
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish desirable.
  • Resident professional experience in a developing country, preferably in francophone Africa.
  • Understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Experience writing or building marketing materials (for print or digital) desirable.
  • Graphic design and web-specific skills desirable.
  • Commitment to global population stabilization and related social and health goals.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Ability to complete multiple detail-oriented tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people of different cultures via email, phone, in writing, and in person.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Adobe Creative Cloud desired (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
