Title: Associate Vice President of Development
Reports to: Executive Vice President

Job Location: Flexible. This position may be based out of PMC’s headquarters in Burlington, VT or any major metropolitan area in the US.

Who We Are: Founded in 1998, Population Media Center uses entertainment-education and mass media to promote social and cultural change by addressing the interconnected issues of the full rights of women and girls, population, and the environment. Our goals are to empower people to live healthier and more prosperous lives and to stabilize global population at a level at which people can live sustainably with the world’s renewable resources. PMC has developed long-running serial dramas for radio, TV and the web in more than 20 unique languages, helping more than 500 million people live healthier lives. The majority of our programs take place in developing countries, and we are also developing a robust U.S. program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Willingness to own PMC’s fundraising function and assume accountability for achieving quantifiable objectives
  • 10+ years of diversified fundraising experience and related activities
  • A record of success with major gifts ($10,000+)
  • Demonstrated success in strategic leadership, board stewardship, and executional excellence
  • Ability to develop relationships at individual, foundation and corporate levels
  • Experience using DonorPerfect or other fundraising software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to global population stabilization and related social and health goals
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with keen attention to detail and deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Up to 25% travel (domestic and international) required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience fundraising with social media platforms
  • Experience coordinating major fundraising events
  • Knowledge or background in environment, gender equity, or sexual/reproductive health issues
  • French or Spanish language skills a plus

Title: Finance Associate
Reports to: Vice President for Finance
Location: PMC Headquarters, South Burlington, VT


Population Media Center (PMC) is a nonprofit, international nongovernmental organization utilizing entertainment mass media to empower people to adopt healthy lifestyles and behaviors. PMC’s work is concentrated on entertainment broadcasting, particularly long-running serial dramas in which characters evolve into role models for audiences. Grounded in its research evidence and theory-based approach, PMC has implemented successful and innovative programs in over 50 developing countries.



Program Accounting & Reporting

  • Receive and process monthly financial reports from foreign offices
  • Reconcile all cash journals and bank statements
  • Post foreign operations financial transactions to general ledger
  • Maintain Cost & Funding Analysis for PMC programs
  • Prepare third party reports as required

General Accounting

  • Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts (cash and investments, pre-paid expenses, fixed assets, payable & accruals

Cash Receipts

  • Process periodic deposit of checks received at PMC HQ
  • Record deposits in general ledger and reconcile with donor database
  • Monitor collection of expected grant and contract proceeds

Cash Disbursements

  • Process and post accounts payable vouchers
  • Process accounts payable checks
  • Reconcile & post monthly credit card statements
  • Process wire transfers as directed by VP of Finance


  • Prepare periodic analysis of budget to actual and recommend corrective management action where necessary


  • Prepare selected documentation for annual financial audit and periodic 3rd party (donor) audits and reviews

Payroll / Human Resources

  • Serve as occasional backup to Office Manager for processing monthly payroll


  • Prepare selected account reconciliations



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 1-3 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in general ledger applications
  • High proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Relevant experience/proficiency in database applications
  • Relevant experience/proficiency in human resources/payroll applications
