Celebrate Earth Day this Year with Mother: Caring for 7 Billion

Apr 21, 2015

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VERMONT – April 22, 2015 is the 45th anniversary of Earth Day in the United States, offering a day of reflection, celebration, and work to protect the Earth. Of course, Mother Earth is worth protecting each and every day of the year. That’s why Tiroir A. Films offers their award-winning documentary Mother: Caring for 7 Billion for unrestricted online viewing for the month of April. Released in 2011 in English, the film now also appears online in Spanish creating the opportunity to educate and inspire more people.

“We’re so excited to be able to release the film in English and Spanish for free for the month of April,” says Co-Producer Joyce Johnson. “The demand for translations was fantastic and we’re so pleased to have received the funding to get the Spanish version available to provide this important story to more people.”

Once a priority on the international agenda, as well as the principal theme of the very first Earth Day, Mother: Caring for 7 Billion effectively brings the conversation about population growth to the forefront of so many social and environmental issues. The film follows Beth, a young American mother grappling with what it means to come from a large American family, the struggles of women and families in developing countries, and her personal journey with her husband as they make decisions about their own family size and composition.

Mother: Caring for 7 Billion features world-renowned experts and scientists in combination with stunning imagery as it shifts mindsets from exploitation and overconsumption to one of caring. The film highlights the precious role that our global attention to gender equity and the education of women and girls plays in securing a sensible and sustainable future on Earth, including some of the work of a small nonprofit, Population Media Center, who produces entertainment-education around the world to address health and human rights issues that impact individual well-being and global population.

Mother: Caring for 7 Billion was directed and produced by Christophe Fauchère and co-produced by Joyce Johnson. Tiroir A. Films hopes to see a French language version of the film as early as summer 2015.
