Empowering Tomorrow’s Change-Makers: PMC’s Mission Unveiled At NYU
Population Media Center’s Vice President of Global Marketing and U.S. Programs, Missie Thurston, had the privilege of speaking at New York University’s (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts about PMC’s transformative mission of using storytelling for social impact.
The event, hosted by Assistant Arts Professor Susan-Sojourna Collier, provided a platform to discuss PMC’s acclaimed Hulu series, East Los High, alongside other award-winning projects and the profound impact of entertainment-education in addressing critical issues like domestic violence, family planning, and more within communities worldwide.
During her presentation, Thurston highlighted the unique methodology PMC employs to engage audiences and spark positive behavior change through entertainment media. She shared insights into the success of East Los High, which not only captivated audiences but also catalyzed meaningful conversations and action around important social issues.
Reflecting on the experience, Missie Thurston remarked, “It was incredibly inspiring to engage with such bright and enthusiastic students at NYU. We need more storytellers who are passionate about leveraging the power of storytelling to drive social change.”
Assistant Arts Professor Susan-Sojourna Collier expressed her enthusiasm for the impact of PMC’s presentation, saying, “The students were inspired by the presentation and the work PMC is doing.
