PMC Welcomes Carly Wickell as Prospect Research and Database Manager

Population Media Center announced a new position earlier this year, hiring Carly Wickell as the nonprofit’s first Prospect Research and Database Manager. Carly is an Information Technology Manager with over six years of experience in relational database maintenance, SQL, user-centered research as well as experience in leadership, analytics, and reporting. Her most recent position was as the Database & Data Integrity Manager at the largest art museum of the west, Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

At the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Carly managed 2+ million constituent records containing more than three million gift records. Gifts ranged from monetary donations to in-kind donations, including gifted or loaned art, totaling billions of dollars. Carly’s work included creation of custom reports, prospecting, and cross referencing across other data records. Carly also worked with the Collection Information and Digital Assets team to make the museum’s collections more accessible to internal users of the database as well as those viewing objects on the website.

“Technology should work for the users, not the other way around,” says Carly. “My work with large, complex databases, my focus on user-centered design, and 13 years in retail customer service and logistics management have shown me that building effective data systems comes back to asking the right questions and then using the technology to deliver the needed answers.”

Carly holds a Master of Arts from University of Washington with a focus on Museology and User-Centered Interaction Design, a BA in Museum Studies from Evergreen State College, and a dual concentration BS in Interior and Apparel Merchandising from East Carolina University. Her colleagues describe her as “systems agnostic” because she has a strong understanding of the back-end technology that powers all relationship management systems.

Outside of work, Carly can be found taking her two pups for adventures (walks), visiting museums, playing video and board games, or going to Disneyland with friends.
