ROE V. WADE OVERTURNED: EVERY ACTION COUNTS IN THE FIGHT FOR REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Jun 24, 2022

Today is the day we have feared for weeks, for months, for decades.

The United States Supreme Court has struck down Roe v. Wade in its 6-3 ruling of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, reversing course after almost 50 years of health care and choice.

To state the obvious, laws and penal codes do not stop abortions. Abortion happens on a daily basis. Just as it always has – and always will.

Prior to Roe v. Wade, abortion access was difficult and safe abortion was not a guarantee. For our mothers, fathers, and grandparents managing their reproductive health 50 years ago – it was harder for them to make intentional choices about when and if they had children. It was harder for them to make their own informed decisions about their future.

This is the story of our past, and we cannot go back.

We will not silently stand by while reproductive freedom and abortion access are stripped away. Instead, we will fight for a better future where all health care, including abortion, is accessible and everyone is free to make decisions about the future of themselves and their families. We will not stop until anyone who can become pregnant has the right to choose, the right to safety, and the right to privacy. Today, thousands of organizations are on the front line of reproductive healthcare, fighting to ensure abortion access no matter where you are in the United States.

At Population Media Center, we work with trusted healthcare partners around the world to connect audiences to vital healthcare resources. It’s part of what our shows do. At this moment in time, we must all commit to connecting people with abortion resources in the United States. Whether you need them personally or can share them with your loved ones – every action counts in the fight for reproductive freedom.

This Supreme Court ruling is not representative of the American people. It is not just. At Population Media Center, we envision a world where people’s bodies, decisions, and futures are respected. We will not stop until we get there.
