Population Media Center has worked in Uganda since 2018 as a social behavior change communication partner. Most notably the team supported the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development (FCDO) Reducing High Fertility Rates and Improving Sexual Reproductive Health Outcomes in Uganda (RISE) project. As part of the project, PMC-Uganda broadcast two long-running radio shows designed to entertain and change attitudes and behaviors.

Akakunizo

This 156-episode radio show began airing October 2019 in Luganda, a widely-used language in Uganda. Akakunizois airing in numerous districts ranging from Northeastern to Central-western Uganda, and seeks to address numerous topics including family planning, sexual and gender-based violence, and maternal and child health and nutrition. Akakunizo is being developed as part of the RISE consortium with the lead implementation partner, MSI Choices, uniting Population Media Center and four other sector-leading organizations to increase modern family planning rates across six regions of Uganda. As with all PMC radio shows, Akakunizo is created using PMC’s radio show methodology.

Sotakai

This 156-episode radio show aired October 2019 in English. Sotakaiis airing in numerous districts ranging from Northeastern to Central-western Uganda, and seeks to address numerous topics including family planning, sexual and gender-based violence, and maternal and child health and nutrition. Sotakai is being developed as part of the RISE consortium with the lead implementation partner, MSI Choices, uniting Population Media Center and four other sector-leading organizations to increase modern family planning rates across six regions of Uganda. As with all PMC radio shows, Sotakai is created usingPMC’s radio show methodology.

Dunga

PMC-Uganda supported International Rescue Committee’s implementation of “Play Well East Africa,” a project funded by the Lego Foundation. PMC-Uganda led the development of a new children’s program, Dunga, addressing social-emotional learning. The team adapted the show for seven languages and key audiences within displaced communities in Uganda and Tanzania.
