PMC in El Salvador

PMC began working in El Salvador in 2012. El Salvador's six million people make it the most densely populated country in Central America.

PMC co-produced Último Año (“Last Year”) with MTV Latin America, which aired in El Salvador for one hour, five nights per week. Because it was broadcast on MTV Latin America, which broadcasts throughout much of Latin America, the estimated audience reach of this serial drama was 22 million households.Último Año’s website recorded 324,000 visits and 1.4 million page views.Último Año ranked #4 on MTV Latin America’s website, received 46,000 likes on Facebook and gained 12,000 followers on Twitter. Último Añowon a number of MTV awards, including TV production, musical theme, best finish, favorite antagonistic character, and best performance.

 


Viewers of PMC's co-production with MTV, Último Año, were significantly more likely than non-viewers to say they used something to prevent pregnancy in the last month (78% vs. 64%).

About El Salvador

El Salvador is approximately three fourths the size of Haiti with a population of approximately 6 million. It’s the smallest, but also the most densely populated country in Central America. El Salvador has one of the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in Latin America. The government has banned abortions and those who are found guilty of undergoing an abortion face five to eight years in jail if found guilty. Even girls who miscarriage potentially face criminalization. Many girls and women to seek out dangerous and secret abortions or they decide to continue with an unwanted or potentially life threatening pregnancy.
